About the Program
About The Learning Current
The Learning Current offers an engaging, effective, and evidence-based approach to help all students become confident, capable readers. Students who are struggling to read with the methods taught in school can benefit from the extra help I provide. Built around the proven RAVE-O curriculum, our program focuses on improving reading fluency, comprehension, and word recognition as well as working on deep-reading skills such as critical analysis, and real-world connections. This is in contrast to the methods taught in school that generally only focus on phonology or “sounding it out”. I believe that every reader should be given the opportunity to learn in a way that is both engaging and suited to their individual needs and strengths.
What is RAVE-O?
RAVE-O which stands for (Retrieval, Automaticity, Vocabulary, Engagement - Orthography) is the curriculum taught at The Learning Current. RAVE-O was created by Maryanne Wolf et al. and is an evidence-based literacy intervention program that integrates phonology, orthography, semantics, syntax, understanding the alphabetic principle, and morphology. RAVE-O is currently the only known program proven to help with Rapid Automatized Naming (RAN) weaknesses. Intervention that is proven to help build automaticity can help correct this and allow fluency and speed to build.
The RAVE-O program is taught through story in 45 minute -1 hour sessions and follows the story of “RAVE-O Town” where different characters teach readers different components of reading and language.
