About Me

A young woman with wavy brown hair and a nose piercing, wearing a black tank top, standing in front of green leafy bushes and trees outdoors.

Hi! My name is Emma and I am the face behind The Learning Current. I started The Learning Current after realizing there is a gap in the education system for children whose strengths don’t align with the way reading is taught in school.

I graduated from York University in 2022 and began working with children and youth in performing arts education. Since then I have grown an interest in working with children in reading intervention and trained in the RAVE-O curriculum.

As someone who was diagnosed with a specific learning disability (dyslexia) at a very young age, I can offer a unique perspective and understanding. Bringing this understanding and combining it with the evidence-based reading intervention methods I have trained in have allowed me to use my experience in a productive way. I believe that with the right support and practice, every child can share in the basic human right of reading and the joy of story.
